My name is far too common: Steve Johnson

So, a couple of decades ago (seems like another life), while residing on 11 lovely acres just outside Portland, Oregon along with many dogs (golden retrievers, beagles, and the occasional pit bull we took in on rescue), a herd of pygmy goats who kept the blackberries at bay, and a bunch of mini-lop rabbits, I began calling myself Pawmarks. Ok, a bit obvious.

The name stuck.

Today, it’s my biggest Twitter account, my Facebook friendly URL, my MySpace friendly name, and I have the yahoo and gmail accounts (didn’t snag the youtube in time). I also go by pawmarks on hundreds of sites and forums across the net.

While some would challenge the assertion, I am a marketer. I create and sell things online.  Especially tools.  I build marketing organizations.  I write.  I teach. I ponder the current online entrepreneur environment, and try to make some sense of it all, and then help others take advantage. I have a tendency to be somewhat adept at the technical mumbo jumbo, often translating it into actual English that a student can take action on.

I love tools.  The more automated, the better. Virtual labor-saving devices is all they are. More time for the dogs, and the yachts, right? Most people shy away from them. I dig in. Find the holes and report them to the developers or authors. Discard the also-rans and wind up with the good stuff. In the online game (yes, it really IS just a big game), you are only as good as your tools.  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
